It’s not every day that I get to go photograph a wedding in the historic small town of Virginia City, Montana. So when Marissa and Tyler told me they wanted to have their wedding celebration standing in the old territorial Capitol of Montana, I could not have been more thrilled. The town is a true piece of history. In fact, it is considered a National Historic Landmark. Of the nearly three hundred structures in town (standing in their original condition), almost half were built prior to 1900. It was like stepping back in time to the Old West period and we took advantage of the amazing Old West architecture and explored the grounds making some cool photos of them and their fun bridal party along the way. When the time came to head to the ceremony, we all took a ride on the Virginia City Shortline Railroad from Nevada City over to the wedding ceremony site in downtown Virginia City. These two Helena residents work in the state government and styled their special day with their own nod to history, to their love of politics and to each other. Their boss just happens to be State of Montana Gov. Steve Bullock who with humor and charm, officiated the ceremony. It was a rare cool August day and the perfect venue to celebrate the start of their new journey together. After these two newlyweds tied-the-knot, we walked the streets of the historic downtown over to the reception hall where we spent the night dancing, playing in a photo booth and celebrating these two amazing people. It was such a fun day and I felt so grateful to be apart of it. Here are my favorite images from the day. I wish these two all the best!

This past Saturday I had a great time photographing the lovely Spring wedding of newlyweds Becky and Kyle at the El Western Resort in Ennis, Montana. Sometimes in life you can’t always plan for the unexpected. I got a early morning message from a photographer friend of mine that had become quite ill on the morning of her client’s wedding day and was unable to work it. That is a nightmare situation for any working creative. God forbid that I ever find myself in that position. But knowing I having a pool of talented photographer friends in the industry here in southwest Montana to call upon, makes handling that situation a little easier. I was able to help take over the reins for her and photograph her client’s El Western Resort wedding without a hitch. I’m proud that I live amongst a community of wedding professionals that go the distance for their clients and to help each other out, working together to provide the best service possible for wedding couples here in southwest Montana. While not an ideal news for bride Becky and groom Kyle to find out on their wedding day, they understood and I stepped up to make the best wedding photography experience for them that I could create. The result was a fun country wedding celebration filled with good people in the heart of horse and fly fishing country just outside of Ennis, Montana. A great time was had by all. I have a lot of great photos to edit through but I wanted to share a few favorites so far that have stood out to me. I’m excited to show them all the goods from their special day. Stay tuned for more wedding photos! -M
Congrats to the newlyweds Kim and Preston! So many more fun photos to show you all. These two love birds hail from Washington D.C. and wanted to make their destination Montana wedding day special for their out of town guests. They wanted their special day captured in a documentary style so they reached out to me. They had their wedding celebration at the rustic Big Yellow Barn outside Bozeman, Montana which was the perfect setting for them. Warm weather, a couple in love, great people, excellent Montana barbeque and cupcakes and an assortment of epic dance moves made the day not only memorable but one heck of a good time. I love the energy they and their guests brought to the celebration. I was so glad I could be apart of it. Here are some of my favorite photos from the day. Wishing these two all the best and many years of happiness. Congrats to the newlyweds! -M

When Heather and Andrew booked me to photograph their 2016 Montana destination Chico Hot Springs wedding day last September, I was half expecting to photograph their early Spring wedding in the snow or rain. After living in Montana for some combined twelve years now, some assumptions regarding annual Montana weather patterns tend to hold true and planning wedding in April can at times be a bit of a gamble. When the big day came, we were blessed with the first sunny 70 degree day of the year in Montana. A perfect stage to welcome all of their out of town guests into the Montana experience. Photographing their wedding day was an absolute pleasure. Having already spent some time with the newlyweds during our winter engagement photo session, I knew their wedding day would be a wonderful joyful celebration. Despite a little wind, the warm weather added to the already lifted spirits of the wedding attendants. Laughter, smiles and stories were present everywhere you looked. It made for a really fun time making photographs. Heather and Andrew are an amazing couple and their family and friends welcomed me with open arms. It was such a fun day. Wishing these newlyweds all the best! -M

I wish all Septembers in Montana could be as nice as this year’s was. A few weeks back, I photographed the wedding day of Sara and Cory at the Springhill Pavilion outside Bozeman, Montana near the base of the Bridger Mountains. In a rare window of opportunity, the smoke from the summer wild land fires eased off giving way to a clear blue sky day and calm warm conditions. It was a perfect backdrop for a classic Montana wedding day. Here are some of my favorite images I made from their wedding celebration. It has been so much fun getting to know these two over the past year. Wishing them a lifetime of happiness. Congrats to Sara & Cory! -M

What a weekend! I had the pleasure of photographing Jenny and Ethan’s wedding rehearsal and wedding day this past weekend at the Rockin TJ Ranch on the outskirts of Bozeman, Montana. September in southwest Montana might just be my favorite time of year to be outside. The weather on their big outdoor wedding day was perfect and the Fall colors were showing up in the local flora. I had a lot of fun throughout the day celebrating with these two newlyweds and their out of town wedding guests. I’m looking forward to showing the rest of the photos from the day. More to come. For now check out this sneak peek preview of some favorites so far. Congrats again to Jenny and Ethan!
As a wedding photographer, I love traveling to new places where I get to explore, be creative and make storytelling candid photographs. It is so much fun. A few weeks back I traveled out to the cute little town of Pony, Montana where I spent my day documenting the rustic country wedding day celebration of Samantha and Jonathan at the beautiful (and new) Y Knot Barn in Pony, Montana. Such a cool place for a wedding. It was a gorgeous venue with a great expansive 360 degree Montana view. These two were all smiles. It was a classic DIY cute country wedding. These two newlyweds were also up for a little adventure. With the help of the generous Y-Knot Barn owners we were able to acquire a couple four wheelers and rode them (wedding dress and all) to an overlook in the valley where we made some pretty epic portraits. We returned to the barn for an evening of BBQ, laughter and country dancing. A fun Montana wedding day. Wish these two all the best! -M
Last weekend I returned to Chico Hot Springs in Pray, Montana to photograph the wedding day of Elizabeth & Ryan. When it came to these two New Mexican residents planning their wedding day, they opted to return to their old stomping grounds of southwest Montana. I’ve picked out a couple images that caught my eye during my day documenting these two. Good times with great people and a great dance party. So many more great photos to show you all. Congrats to the newlyweds! Stay tuned for more…. -M
A few weeks back I had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of Bobbijean and Chris at the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. The two met while working at the park a few summers back and decided to tie-the-knot in a place that was so special to their hearts. While Chris has moved on to work in logging industry, Bobbijean still is a proud park employee and with her position, was able to gain some perks for her special day – like a visit up to the historic Crow’s Nest high up in the historic log and limb lobby for some portraits and having their first look atop the Inn roof over looking the erupting Old Faithful geyser. It was pretty special and a great view to say the least. After an emotional ceremony filled with tears of joy and laughter, the wedding celebration transitioned outside the park boundaries to the town of West Yellowstone where the reception festivities filled the historic Union Pacific Dining Lodge. A fun day throughout. I was so glad to be apart of it. Congrats again to the newlyweds and I wish them all the best. -M
